CURRICULUM VITAE
Studied Biology at the Justus-Liebig-University of Giessen. During his diploma thesis, Dr. Schaft biochemically characterized bioactive substances isolated from marine sponges at the Institute for Forensic Medicine of the Goethe University of Frankfurt, graduated with diploma in 1999.
Awarded Ph.D. (Dr.rer.nat.) in 2003 for research in the field of gene expression and biochemistry, in particular for studies relating to the biochemical and proteomic analysis of native histone deacatylase and histone methyltransferase complexes, conducted at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg and at the Biotechnology Center of the Technical University of Dresden (BIOTEC). EMBL Pre-doctoral fellow.
Post-doctoral work at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute (VCCRI), Sydney, Australia, relating to the identification and characterization of cardiac transcription factor complexes with relevance in congenital heart disease. Post-doctoral fellow of the German Research Foundation (DFG) and of the Human Frontier Science Programs (HFSP).
Active in the area of intellectual property with a focus on protecting chemical and life science inventions since 2008.
